Abijah Savage was commissioned a lieutenant in the French and Indian Wars. Captured in December 1755 at Quebec, he spent 14 months as a prisoner on a prison ship on the Saint Laurence River. After his release he was made a captain. He raised a company and served in the Revelutionary War. He was a shipwright and a founder of the Society of the Cincinnati.
