Miss Ethel Adeline House, daughter of Rev. John H. House, D. D., and Mrs. House of Salonika, Greece, and Benjamin Barrows Bliss of New York city, a son of William Bliss of Fall River, were married yesterday at four o'clock at the home of the bride's brother, John H. House, Jr., at Hastings-on-Hudson.
The bride's sister, Miss Grace Bigelow House, was maid of honor. Little Elizabeth House, a niece, was flower girl, and Master Carleton House, a nephew, served as page. William Bliss of Yonkers was best man for his brother. The bride wore a gown of white satin, which was worn by her grandmother, Adeline Bigelow, at her wedding. Her brother, John H. House, Jr., gave her in marriage. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Stephen Trowbridge of Brooklyn.
The bride, who is a grandniece of the late John Bigelow, who was ambassador to France under President Lincoln, was in Vienna, Austria, when the European war began, and reached this country on the steamship Philadelphia in August. Her father founded and is the president of the Thessalonika Agricultural and Industrial Institute at Salonika, and has lived in the Orient for forty years. For the last year his daughter has been identified with the work of the Red Cross committee at Sofia, Bulgaria, following the war with Turkey. After returning from their honeymoon Mr. Bliss and his bride will reside in New York.
