Family Notes

Thomas Butler, son of Deacon Richard Butler, was part of the second generation of Hartford settlers. He married Sarah Stone, daughter of Rev. Samuel Stone and Hope Fletcher.

The Butler family was closely connected through marriage to many early Connecticut families including Olmstead, Cadwell, Porter, Gaylord, Marsh, Day, Shepard, and Hurlbut.

Thomas Butler served as a freeman and held local civic roles in Hartford. His will, dated 1688, names several of his children, though not all are consistently identified in later genealogies.
